The Atlanta Medical Center employee was one of 11 Georgia hospital employees honored at the inaugural event in Atlanta .
Kinnaird began her career as a radiation therapist treating patients diagnosed with cancer.
As director of Atlanta Medical Center 's state-of-the-art Cancer Pavilion, she ensures that every patient– whether there for a wellness checkup or long-term treatment – receives comfortable, patient-centric care. Kinnaird's compassion extends beyond patient care. She once gave life-saving CPR to a co-worker who had had an attack. In a skirt and three-inch heels and leaving a ring of lipstick behind, Kinnaird managed to coordinate a 911 call and administer CPR until help arrived.
In addition to work-related accomplishments, she is active in her community. For more than 12 years, she has mentored young ladies through Big Brothers/Big Sisters, first in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area and then in Atlanta. She has helped several young girls with high school and college expenses. Last year, Kinnaird volunteered more than 1,000 hours reading to children at Leslie J. Steele Elementary School , worked with the elderly at an Eastlake retirement community, educated a variety of community groups about cancer, and taught free sewing classes.
