The Houston Healthcare physician was one of 11 Georgia health care practitioners honored at the inaugural event in Atlanta .
Dr. Keebaugh identified a need within her community and worked with the administrative staff of Houston Healthcare, local physicians and nurses, community leaders and others to establish a volunteer clinic for Houston County 's working uninsured.
In Keebaugh's Houston County community, there are more than 20,000 employed individuals without health insurance. Neither they nor their employers can afford medical insurance and because they are working, they do not qualify for Medicaid. Many of these individuals have chronic illnesses such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and asthma, which often go untreated until they end up in the hospital or emergency room with possible long-term and preventable consequences.
Because of Keebaugh's vision and commitment, hundreds of adults are now receiving prescriptions and regular medical care through Houston County 's first volunteer medical clinic.
