What is a Hospital Hero?

Webster's Dictionary defines the word "hero" as "a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of purpose, esp. one who has risked or sacrificed his/her life." Georgia hospitals and health systems are full of people who fit that exact description. For most hospital employees, their occupation represents far more than just a job or paycheck. Instead, they are honoring a "life calling" to contribute to an environment that saves lives, enhances health and preserves families. These heroic people answer the call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure that the local hospital can continue to serve as that community's place of hope, healing and physical restoration. Heroes exist at every level of the hospital including the obvious - physicians, nurses and other bedside caregivers - to those unsung people who sacrifice so much to enhance the patient experience - professionals in administrative capacities or other areas such as dietary, environmental services or physical plant operations.

Who are the heroes in your hospital? Perhaps it's a person who helped save a life inside or outside the hospital. Maybe it's someone who is a leader in your community. Or maybe it's someone who has performed his/her job admirably for an extended period of time with little fanfare or recognition.

The Georgia Hospital Association wants to recognize the many Hospital Heroes who make a difference in the lives of Georgians. We look forward to receiving your nomination.
